Above: Big Bear lake frozen over

We headed out to run Gold Mountain and Holcomb yesterday. Probably the coldest i've ever felt in Big Bear. The overnight low was 4 degrees and the daytime high was 14 degrees. We had two landcruisers with us and two full size trucks. We started out the trail fine, but after the second rock garden we decided to turn around. There was just too much ice on the rocks for the full size rigs with open diffs to get through. So then we had to get the huge trail limos turned around. That was fun.
The south side of Gold Mtn didn't have a ton of snow. We waited too long. It snowed 4 days before we arrived.

Coming through the first rock section. in the Cruiser. The full size open diff trucks really spun and had to work to get through here. All the rocks were covered with ice.

Great view. Not something you want to drive off.

Another great view of the snow with desert (Lucerne) in the background.

Gold Mtn Mine

We found fresh snow in Holcomb valley.

It was pretty chilly in downtown Big Bear.

We had a great day. No real damage to report and everyone made it home safe. One of the full size trucks slid into a tree and received a nice looking dent on the fender. Other than that, and the traffic coming down the mountain, it was perfect.
I should have some more pics later.
